 3. Economy/ Daily life/ Social and political

Basically, the economy of Rood Creek Indians was based on agriculture. During the year, they were planting and harvesting seeds. In fact, they sowed corn, squash and beans. Another element of their economy was the hunting. They were used to go hunting in order to have meat, leather to confection clothes and tools. They hunted dears, buffaloes, rabbits, squirrels, and caught fish.

Their daily life was simple. The women were cooking and raising their children, and the men were hunting or being engaged in the fields. Meanwhile the men were teaching children how to fight, hunt and make tools useful. The Chief, the Medicine man and the people formed the tribe. The chief of the tribe didn’t have so much power. His status was only honorific. In on hand, the chief played the role of priest and led ceremonies. The only advantage of Chief was that he received 20 % of the tribe’s crop each year. On the other hand, he was allowed to have three wives and six servants. Furthermore, when he did something wrong, the tribe could decide to replace him immediately and never pay attention to him again. The tribe could also decide to kill the chief if ever this latter messed up to all his duties. In addition, if ever the chief died his three wives and servants were strangled and buried with him. In the opposite, the medicine man was as less powerful than the chief, but more respected. His recommendations were sometimes considered as bids because he was supposed to have the power to talk to the gods and the ancestors. He was the doctor., the geologist, the chemist and most of all the astronomer of the tribe.
