Camping
- The park has two family campgrounds offering 70 RV/tent sites with water
and electrical hookups. Compfort stations with hot showers and restrooms
are provided. Four walk-in tents sites without electricity and fice "squirrel's
nest" camping platforms without electricity and water are also offered.
Pioneer camping is available for groups.
Cottage
- 16 rustic, fully equipped cottages with fireplaces are rented on a reservation
basis to families. These have 2 or 3 bedrooms and can accommodate up to
10 people. Eash cottage has a BBQ grill and picnic table.
Picknicking
- There are 117 tables and 7 reserved shelters. A group shelter with an
80-person capacity is also available for rent. Park visitors are asked
to use designed picnic areas only; each has a grill, and no ground fires
are permitted.
Fishing
- The spring-fed 17-acre lake is open for fishing year-round during park
hours. Fishing is permitted from the bank only, not including the beach
or pedal boat dock. Persons age 16 or older must have a valid resident
or non-resident fishing license.
Boating
- Only the park's pedal boats are allowed on the lake. They can be rented
in the summer during the beach operation hours. Park safety regulations
are in effect for pedal boat usage.
Swimming
- The beach is open for swmming 10 am - 6 pm. Tuesday - Friday, and 11
am - 7 pm, Saturday and Sunday. The beach is closed Mondays except legal
holidays. Food/drinks are not permitted on the beach. Children age 10 or
younger must be accompanied by an adult. A lifeguard is on duty during
beach hours. Cottage guests swim free.
Hiking
- A short footpath leads to the Cool Springs Overlook with a view of the
Cohutta wilderness area. The Big Rock Nature Trail (.7 miles) follows the
stream which flows from the lake. The Old Fort Trail (1.8 mile) leads to
the rock wall, stone tower and overlooks, and the Lake Loop Trail (1.2
mile) surrounds the lake. An 8.2 mile backpacking trail offers 4 limited
overnight camping areas. Overnight campers must register at the office
and pay a camping fee. Due to the mountaious terrain, trais are rated moderate
to difficult.
Annual Special
Events - Spring Wildflower Hike (Spring), Fort Mountain Mysteries (August)
and Overnight Backcountry Tryp (October and November). Dates are subject
to chage -- Please conform with the Park Office. There are scheduled programs
Wednesday - Sunday presented by the park naturalist during the summer months.
