Upper Jack's River Hike
April 22, 2006

One Student's
Experience

The Upper Jack’s River trail was very impressive for my friends and me.  The river is quite far from the Language Institute.  I think it took almost 2 hours.  After arriving at the entrance of the trail, our instructor, Roger, told us about safety, and he took pictures for us, 17 people.  Finally, with our friends, we started the hike to the river.

First, we hiked to the River. During the hike, I saw a lot of natural things, and the natural things were really impressive.  I breathed real fresh air and smelled the natural scent.  However, it was rainy when we started out hiking, so some people wore rain coats, and some people held umbrellas.  Because there was no fun thing during the walking, I got bored easily, but I tried talking with friends about hiking.  They were very excited about hiking, so they took a lot of pictures during the hike.  My friends and I increased our pace until we got to the river.  After arriving at the river, Roger said that he would cross the river first.

He crossed the river first, and we tried to cross the river one after another. The crossing was interesting to us, so we laughed a lot.  Although we laughed a lot, we helped each other cross the river safely.  Unfortunately, some of us fell down in the river, and some of us got scrapes.  There were 21 crossings on the river trail.  We crossed at these places and took many pictures.  During the river section, we saw rare flowers and took pictures.  We also saw the trace of bridges and a railroad. Finally, we crossed the last place. Our boring walking started again.

My friends and I entered a fantastic place consisting of sunshine, tall trees and fresh air on the trail.  I enjoyed walking through the path of the place.  When I walking in this fine place, I felt like I was in a fine painting.  The walk though the place was so impressive that I will never forget walking in the place.  The last walking took about one hour. During the hour, we talked about our future and plans and advised each other.  Finally, when we saw the end of the trail, suddenly, we started running without any words.  We were much faster than other parts of the group.  I worried about stragglers, but there were no stragglers in our nice group.

After hiking, we went to a restaurant for our dinner, and we ate BBQ.  Our group was so big that we couldn’t sit all together.  Our group divided into two parts. However, the food was very good.  After eating, we came back to Atlanta.

Another
Student's Experience

On Saturday, 4/22/06, I went on a hiking trip with the Georgia Tech Language Institute.  First of all, we woke up at 6:00am and got ready for the trip. After that, I went to see the teachers and my friends. Then, we got into a car and began to move. We spend two hours on the road. Then, we had breakfast and, at 10:30, we began to walk. We took some pictures as a short break, but most of the time, we keep on walking. The weather was very cold, and it was raining cats and dogs; therefore, we had to use raining coats. At 12:00 pm, we had the lunch break. After that, the teacher began to give us some advice about crossing the river.  For example we had to use a stick to keep ourselves balanced while crossing the river. Also, the teacher told us that he would take some funny picture of us while we crossing. We had to cross about 21 times. We kept on walking until 7:00 pm. At the end, we had to be quick before it got dark. At 7:30pm, we got back to the car, and from that moment, the trip had ended. We took the last picture. After that, we went to a restaurant called “Pink Pig Restaurant” for dinner. Then, we went to a gas station because the teacher wanted to drink some coffee so he could stay awaken. Finally, we got back home at 11:00.
