Oprah Winfrey

Oprah Winfrey is a very famous television talk show host, producer, actress, and businesswoman. She became a great success as an African-American woman.

She lived around her family, and she had a troubled childhood. She was born in Kosciusko, Mississippi, on January 29, 1954. She was raised by her paternal grandmother until she was six. From the age of six to thirteen, Oprah lived in Milwaukee with her mother, Vernita Lee. Also, she was sexully molested by her cousins, uncles and relatives. Next, she went to live with her father in Nashville, Tennessee. She majored in Speech Communications and Performing Arts at Tennessee State University.

She started on a new life after she graduated from the university. She moved to Baltimore in 1976, and she hosted the TV show "People are Talking." Then she stayed with it for eight years. In January 1984, she moved to Chicago to host WLS-TV's faltering talk show "A.M. Chicago." In 1985, A.M. Chicago was renamed the Oprah Winfrey Show and entered national syndication in 1986. At this time she received Golden Globe and Academy Award nominations as best supporting actress in The Color Purple. In 1989, she started to produce a TV miniseries, the Women of Brewster Place. Winfrey also signed a multi-picture contract with Disney. In 1991, she promoted "The National Child Protection Act" and testified bofore the United States Senate Judiciary Committee about child abuse. On December 20, 1993. President Clinton signed the national "Oprah Bill" into the law. In 1998, she was named the second most admired woman in America. In 2000, she debuted her magazine, Oprah Magazine. Now, she lives in Chicago with her fiance, and she continues helping with her contributions.

"The Oprah Winfrey Show" became the highest rated talk show in television history. The Oprah Winfrey Show has featured poets and pop psychologists. It has inspired courage into people. Also, Oprah is very powerful and warm as a human. She continues to grow, deeper, and become a woman of influence.
